抗美援朝战争爆发后，黄继光主动报名参军，因头脑灵活，腿脚快，被选做通信兵，他一直渴望有机会能走上前线，为了战争的胜利做出自己的贡献。上甘岭战役爆发当日，前线通讯受阻，他主动接过建立前线通信的任务。任务途中偶遇上前线侦查的李旭，遂决定一同前往前线战场。坑道里，重伤的李旭交给黄继光一沓战士们的家信后因伤重不治而牺牲。战场的惨烈和战友的牺牲击碎了黄继光对战场乐观的想象，也让他坚定了自己的决心与意志——不惜一切代价，一定赢得这场战争的胜利！大反击之夜，黄继光跟随部队冲杀在第一线。在部队伤亡殆尽，任务眼看失败的危殆之际，黄继光挺身而出完成了那英雄壮举。。“I don’t think we would ever do a proper finale,” Thomas said. “It’s not really like that.
