剧集根据吴林的小说《金花铁掌》改编，从战马为切入口，讲述了抗日战争时期，赵家马掌铺少爷赵大旗（吴樾饰）在机缘巧合之下参加了新四军并一路成长，与吴州国小老师孙佳慧（余心恬饰）相识相恋，历经生死劫难一路并肩战斗的故事。。1999年，迈克尔马修斯成为登顶圣母峰最年轻的英国人。但在完成登顶的3个小时后，他失踪了并再没被找到。23年后，他的弟弟，一位企业家及主持人斯宾塞马修斯准备前往寻找他。与拥有14座高峰攀登记录的尼尔马普贾组成队伍，随着天气的恶化救援队面临着极端挑战。 本片部分镜头可能引起观众不适,请酌情观看。。In 1966, a famous actor (Peter O'Toole) is taken by a rowboat to a fabulous old hotel on an island in the middle of a lake.
